Hello. anybody. Happy New Year! I was wondering how often you disassemble and clean your SKS later on shooting. With most of the guns I have now I just run the bore snake through it a few times and wipe the gun down with a light oil. I know that y'all have to be conscientious with keeping the firing pin clean considering of the slam burn problem. I take a Yugo SKS.If at that place is a departure. I likewise should say that I did put the weapon in a Tapco stock T6 Fusion. It too has a cover that mounts over the back of the bolt with a couple of screws.

As with all of my weapons, each and every time I return from a trip to the range. Information technology is a office of the whole. "Did I shoot corrosive ammo?" or "Did the sand blow (in westward Texas-ALWAYS)?" It is a expert habit to learn. Plus, if my SIL, brothers, or most friend (ex armed forces) discover a lapse... I become severely chastised.

Yeah, gas operated arrangement.
You should clean the gas tube, piston, barrel/chamber and with it being a semi-motorcar, the commodities & firing pin,
magazine, trigger group, carrier and fifty-fifty the recoil spring and op rod/bound (depending on how many rounds y'all shoot).
If it'due south Chinese ammo, you lot can virtually bet it's corrosive, even some of the older Russian.

I disassemble and clean mine every fourth dimension I come back from shooting.  The only parts that I don't clean every fourth dimension is the trigger group, only that commonly gets a lilliputian drop or two of oil but for proficient measure.

BilyBang, about that Chinese ammo, does that apply even to ammo that says "non corrosive"? I've got some x25 chinese rounds with steel cores that were imported just before it got cutting off. I don't intend to burn information technology, but I'grand curious if information technology might be corrosive despite what it says.

The complete and utter truth tin can be challenged from every direction and it will always concur upwardly. Accordingly there are few greater displays of illegitimacy than to endeavour to impede free thought and communication.

Yes. Even if it says Non-corrosive.
And I tested quite a few different kinds.

I normally make clean the butt and wipe down the chamber subsequently each range trip, just after about every 100 rounds I do a complete strip down and give it a nice bath.

I only shoot about twenty-xl shots each range trip though. I can't afford to shoot 100+ shots each trip.

What is it really, that motivates you?
The demand to fly, or this fearfulness to stop?

My wife says that the only reason I go shooting is and so I can make clean my rifles!

I do virtually the aforementioned as you Poncho especially since I shoot reloads and the pulverisation is allot cleaner burning and leave allot less carbon than the usual Russian forage.

lordy, that optic is about 4" over the bore.

id similar to the the electrolysis cleaning that was described on here, on my paratrooper, just its got chrome.

Isn't there another current mail here somewhere near how often i should clean their SKS?
(or mayhap I'm but loosing it)

I hear ya on the blowing sand.  Every fourth dimension I come up dorsum from shooting information technology seems like in that location is a pound of sand in each gun, non to mention downwardly the dorsum of my shirt...

West Texas/Southern New Mexico is non well-nigh as bad equally Republic of iraq from what I hear, simply it'due south bad plenty.  The only thing nosotros don't have to worry about here is humidty...cuts down on the rust.

I usually make clean after every trip out.  Once in a while I am bad and don't clean for a week or so, but I don't shoot corrosive ammo, so it's not that bad.
